One ‘Trick’ That Researcher Says Can Make Even an Insomniac Fall Asleep in 60 Seconds

Thanks to research conducted by a scientist at Harvard University, there may be a way to overcome sleepless nights. The kicker? He says this one trick can make even an insomniac fall asleep in 60 seconds.
And no, it’s not counting sheep.
Arizona-based Dr. Andrew Weil claims that if we breath in patters of 4-7-8, it will act as a natural tranquilizer for the nervous system, relaxing our mind and body, thus allowing us to fall asleep.
On Weill’s YouTube channel, he says:
“It is utterly simple, takes almost no time, requires no equipment and can be done anywhere.”
Dr. Weil claims that this breathing mechanism allows you to detach yourself from everyday thoughts and feel one with your body.
If you’re wondering how to properly perform the breathing technique, here is the quick four-step process:
  1. Let all the air out of your lungs by exhaling and making a “whoosh” sound
  2. Close your mouth and breath quietly through your nostrils while counting to four.
  3. Hold your breath for a total of seven seconds.
  4. Exhale through your mouth, while making another whoosh sound for a total of eight seconds in one continuous breath.
Dr. Weil says:
“Note that you always inhale quietly through your nose and exhale audibly through your mouth. The tip of your tongue stays in position the whole time.”
After you have completely the cycle, repeat for a total of three times.
According to Weil, this technique can take time to master. But if you practice it twice a day for six-to-eight weeks, the breathing process will have you asleep before you can count to a minute.

    Interesting. I fall asleep with zero problems when I am tired. But, ...when stress is high, falling asleep becomes impossible. I'm gonna give that a whirl next time I can't sleep! Thanks for the info!
